Happy first of June, every one! I can’t believe that it’s already more than a month ago that I flew to Canada. Time flies! Anyway, if you’ve seen my Canada beauty haul, you already know that I went a little bit crazy at Sephora. One of the products I got was the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette, which was very high on my wishlist! In Europe it’s quite hard to get your hands on Kat Von D products, so when I knew I was going to Canada I decided to make it my mission to get this palette. Fortunately I succeeded! I had to pay a whopping C$55,- (which is about €37,-), but I think it’s totally worth the money!

Colors
Let me start this Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette review with saying that I absolutely love matte and earth toned eye shadows. I very rarely use glittery or shimmery eye shadows, because I just like the natural look of matte eye shadows. Real matte colors are quite hard to find though. I sometimes think I found one only to discover later that it actually does contain a tiny bit of shimmer. That’s why this eye shadow palette has been on my wishlist for quite some time already. So yes, I love how matte they are, but I also love the earth toned colors. They’re all just so natural looking! Oh, and as you can tell from the swatches the pigmentation is just incredible!
Instructions
This palette comes with a flyer containing how to apply instructions. The palette contains three quads, all for a different purpose. The neutral quad is for defining the eyes, the cool quad for lifting the eyes and the warm quad for balancing the eyes (widen or narrow). Of course you don’t have to follow the instructions, but I think they’re very handy. On one of the pictures above you can see how all three of the quads look applied on the eyes. I think the warm quad is my favorite!
Long-lastingness
The eye shadows definitely stay put all day when you use a good eye shadow primer (I use a very cheap one from a Dutch drugstore called Etos). I haven’t tested them without a primer, since I simply think you should always wear a primer underneath eye shadow.

Fijne eerste dag van juni, iedereen! Ik kan niet geloven dat het al meer dan een maand geleden is dat ik naar Canada ben gevlogen. De tijd vliegt! Anyway, als je mijn Canada beauty haul hebt gezien, weet je al dat ik mezelf een beetje heb laten gaan bij Sephora. Eén van de producten die ik kocht was de Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour palette, welke erg hoog op mijn verlanglijstje stond! In Europa is het namelijk best moeilijk om aan Kat Von D producten te komen, dus toen ik wist dat ik naar Canada ging besloot ik het mijn missie te maken om dit palette in handen te krijgen. Gelukkig ben ik geslaagd! Ik moest wel even C$55,- (wat ongeveer €37,- is) neertellen, maar dat vind ik het helemaal waard!

Kleuren
Ik wil deze review graag beginnen door te zeggen dat ik echt dol ben op matte en aardekleurige oogschaduws. Ik gebruik maar zelden oogschaduw met glitter of glans, omdat ik de natuurlijke look van matte oogschaduws gewoon heel mooi vind. Echte matte kleuren zijn helaas moeilijk te vinden. Soms denk ik er één gevonden te hebben, maar kom ik er later achter dat deze toch stiekem een beetje glitter bevat. Dat is dan ook de reden dat dit oogschaduw palette al zo lang op mijn verlanglijstje stond. Dus ja, ik vind het fantastisch dat ze zo mat zijn, maar ik vind ook de aardse kleuren erg mooi. Ze zien er allemaal zo natuurlijk uit! O, en zoals je kan zien aan de swatches is de pigmentatie echt geweldig!
Instructies
Dit palette komt met een flyer waarop instructies staan over hoe je de oogschaduws aanbrengt. Het palette bevat drie verschillende ‘sub-paletten’, allemaal voor verschillende doeleinden. De neutral quad is om de ogen te benadrukken, de cool quad om de ogen te liften en de warm quad om de ogen te balanceren (wijder of smaller). Natuurlijk hoef je de instructies niet per sé te volgen, maar ik vind ze best handig. Op één van de foto’s hierboven kan je zien hoe alle drie de quads aangebracht op mijn ogen eruit zien. Ik denk dat de warm quad mijn favoriet is!
Long-lastingness
De oogschaduws blijven zeker de hele dag zitten, mits je een goede eye shadow primer gebruikt (I use a very cheap one from a Dutch drugstore called Etos). Ik heb ze niet getest zonder een primer, omdat ik gewoonweg vind dat je altijd een primer onder je oogschaduw moet dragen.
