BEAUTY / URBAN DECAY NAKED2 VS W7 IN THE BUFF

[english]

When my niece went to Paris a couple of weeks ago and asked me if she could bring me something from Sephora I finally made a decision I had been wanting to make for a long time: I asked her to get me the Urban Decay Naked2 palette. I really wanted a Naked palette and number two appealed most to me. I also already had a fake version, the W7 In the Buff palette, and since I already used it quite often I new I would like the colors. Since I now own both the expensive Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and the cheap W7 In the Buff palette I thought it would be nice to compare them to each other.

Packaging
First thing I can say is that the packaging of the Urban Decay one looks more professional, which it should for €49,90. It feels heavier, it contains a mirror and it comes with a very nice brush which I use very often. It also comes with four sample packettes of their famous eyeshadow primer potion: original, Sin, Eden and anti-aging. The samples last for a pretty long time, since I have just started using the second one (Sin). I can tell using these primers really make a difference: The colors looks more vivid and your make up won’t crease. So after I run out of the samples I will definitely buy a full size primer. The packaging of the W7 feels lighter, doesn’t contain a mirror and the brush is quite simple. You won’t get any primer samples as well. But hey, you only pay €8,- for this one, so what do you expect?

Colors/Pigmentation
So this is where it’s all about: Does the W7 In the Buff palette actually compare to the Urban Decay Naked2 palette? Honestly, it does! The pigmentation of the Urban Decay Naked2 palette is slightly better (see swatches by scrolling down), especially when it comes to the darker colors, but that doesn’t mean the W7 In the Buff colors are rubbish. Not at all! To be fair, I’m a little bit disappointed in the Naked2 palette, since I thought it should be a 100 times better than the In the Buff palette. And since I already liked the In the Buff palette that meant I probably expected something impossible, like tiny dwarfs in the palette who put on your make-up or something else ridiculous. So what I mean to say is that my disappointment isn’t fair, since the In the Buff palette already is pretty great. So the Naked2 palette is amazing, but not much more amazing than the In the Buff palette. So the W7 team did a pretty great job in making a dupe of the Naked2 palette. Not all colors are exactly the same, but I don’t particularly like the colors of one palette better than the other.

Conclusion
Owning an Urban Decay Naked palette feels pretty awesome and the Naked2 palette is a very good choice, but when you have to save a little money I wouldn’t splurge on this one and just buy the W7 In the Buff palette in stead. It’s a pretty big difference in costs, while the difference in performance isn’t that big. The last photo proves the similarity of the two palettes since I put Naked2 palette colors on one eye and the same colors from the In the Buff palette on the other eye and you hardly can tell the difference. Kudos, W7!

[dutch]

Kudos, W7!
