Meet Hercules, our 14 weeks old Maine Coon kitten. This sweet little ball of fur has been living with us for a week now and we’re over the moon. Vincent and I are both used to have cats around us since we’re young, so when we finally found a place of our own we did miss having a cat around us. So we decided to get a cat. When we watched an episode of Cats 101 about the Maine Coons we immediately knew we also wanted such a big friendly giant. Maine Coons are the largest domestic cats on the world, males can weigh up to 15 kilos (google for images!). They might be huge, but they’re super friendly as well. We thought it would be really cool to have such a big cat in our house and above all we just really liked their rough appearances. They look like wild cats!

After a long internet search we found our perfect kitten at cattery Ginsea in Almere; a true-bred (so including a family tree) black smoke Maine Coon. At any means we wanted to have a cat with a family tree. Not because we wanted to take him to shows, but to make sure he doesn’t have any nasty diseases in his genes. We reserved Hercules when I was just three weeks old and from when he was four weeks old we were allowed to visit him for the very first time. We immediately loved this crazy little guy and moreover we had a really good feeling with this cattery. They’re true cat lovers. We had to wait until he was 13 weeks old, which is a good thing, since this way he has enough time to learn everything he can from his mother. It felt like we waited for ages though, so were really excited when we finally got to get him on a Saturday.

He didn’t really like the car ride, but when we got home he immediately forgot about it. He instantly felt like this was his home: He went to the litter box, he ate and drunk, he used his scratching pole (more about that here) en he played until he got tired. And he still does! One of his hobbies is watching cars. We live on the third floor of an apartment complex next to a busy traffic junction, so there’s always something for him to see. Hercules does not come outside for that reason, but he can get on of our two balconies, which we fenced off for his sake. We also want to teach him to walk in a harness, so we can walk him.

We’re crazy madly in love with him: We love both his cute snuggly and his devilish personality. Like every cat Hercules sometimes is naughty as well. He for example always tries to  steal our food, which actually is quite funny as well. He’s so obsessed with food, that if he doesn’t manage to steal it from our plate he tries to grab it from our mouths. The crazy little fellow! He also loves attacking our feet, which can be quite painful and he likes waking us at night to play. Fortunately we can laugh about it, because secretly his pranks are cute as well. But over all he’s really sweet! He loves to cuddle and play. Like you can tell from the last photo he even sits on your shoulder. We think that’s pretty awesome.

We’re very curious to see what he’ll look like when he’s all grown up, but first we’re completely enjoying his naughty kitten time! Don’t be afraid, I’m not non-stop going to bother you with cat stories, but if you’d like to see more about him you should follow him on instagram: @mainecoonhercules. He posts a photo every day ;)

Ontmoet Hercules, ons 14 weken oude Maine Coon kitten.
