Last week I already published a matte liquid lipstick review, but since I’m such a sucker for matte liquid lipsticks I just wanted to review this new lipstick as well: the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer, which I received in three different colors. I immediately got excited about this product, since it reminds me of the famous Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid lipstick. Only way cheaper (and available in Europe)! Colors: Funk, Criminal & Serene
So in this MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer review I swatched and put on three different colors of the range: Funk, Criminal and Serene. If you read my review about the & Other Stories liquid lipstick, you also read that I prefer nude colors for my lips and you probably also noticed that these three colors are anything but nude. So these lip lacquers are not suitable for me to wear everyday, but rather for a night out. Fortunately this lip lacquer from MUA comes in nude shades as well: Halcyon and Tranquility. Those two are definitely on my wishlist. But back to the colors I dó have: I love two of them, but I absolutely hate one of them. My absolute favorite is Funk, a red-pink color which I would wear for going out for dinner with the boyfriend. Criminal is a flashy pink color, which would be a great statement color for a night out. Serene is totally not my cup of tea though. It made me feel like a crossing between an ugly Barbie and a Jersey Shore girl. Nope, light pink is so not my color. All three colors are super matte by the way, which is a big plus to me!

Pigmentation and application
Like most liquid lipsticks the pigmentation of these lip lacquers is absolutely great: One layer is enough. There is something funny going on with Serene though, which seems to apply very uneven. The first time I applied it some parts of my lips were much darker than other parts, which looked very stupid. So I took it all of and applied it again, but quicker, which seemed to help a bit. But as you can tell from the photo, it still looked different on same parts of my lips. So that brings me to the topic of the application: you’ve got to apply it quickly, because the product dries super fast. No biggie, but something to keep in mind. I’m a big fan of the lipgloss-ish applicator by the way, which provides for a very precise application. No lip pencil needed!

Long-lastingness (is that even a word?)
So one of the reasons why I love liquid lipsticks is the fact that they’re very long-lastig. This MUA lip lacquer is no exception! I even have a hard time getting it off before I go to bed (it involves lots of rubbing). This actually is a big plus to me, since I hate doing touch ups. Usually when I come home from a long day at school I don’t have any lipstick left on my lips, oops!

In sum: if you’re looking for a budget-friendly long lasting matte lipstick, you need a MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in your life. Vorige week publiceerde ik al een matte liquid lipstick review, maar aangezien ik echt een zwak heb voor matte liquid lipstick wilde ik deze nieuwe lippenstift ook graag reviewen: de MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer, welke ik ontving in drie verschillende kleuren. Ik was onmiddellijk enthousiast toen ik dit product ontving, aangezien het me deed denken aan de bekende Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. Maar dan veel goedkoper (en verkrijgbaar in Europa)! Lees snel verder als je wil weten of het echt zo goed is als het lijkt!

Kleuren: Funk, Criminal & Serene
Voor deze MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer heb ik drie verschillende kleuren van het spectrum geswatched en opgedaan: Funk, Criminal en Serene. Als je mijn review hebt gelezen over de & Other Stories liquid lipstick, heb je ook gelezen dat mijn voorkeur uitgaat naar nude kleuren en waarschijnlijk is het je ook niet ontgaan dat deze drie kleuren alles behalve nude zijn. Deze lip lacquers zijn dus niet geschikt voor mij om elke dag te dragen, maar eerder voor een avondje uit. Gelukkig is deze lip lacquer van MUA er ook in nude tinten: Halcyon and Tranquility. Die twee staan zeker op mijn verlanglijstje! Maar terug naar de kleuren die ik wél heb: Ik ben dol twee ervan, maar één ervan vind ik echt vreselijk. Mijn absolute favoriet is Funk, een rood-roze kleur welke ik zou dragen als ik uiteten ga met mijn vriend. Criminal is een opvallende roze kleur, welke een gave statement zou zijn voor een avondje uit. Serene is alleen totaal niet mijn ding. Als ik deze kleur op mijn lippen draag voel ik me een kruising tussen een lelijke Barbie en een Jersey Shore meisje. Nope, lichtroze is echt niet mijn kleur. Alle drie de kleuren zijn trouwens super matte, wat ik echt fijn vind!

Pigmentatie en applicatie
Zoals de meeste liquid lipsticks is de pigmentatie van deze lip lacquers fantastisch: Eén laagje is voldoende. Er is wel iets geks aan de hand met Serene, welke oneven lijkt aan te brengen. De eerste keer dat ik ‘m opdeed waren sommige gedeelten van mijn lippen donkerder dan andere, wat er heel absurd uitzag. Dus ik haalde alles eraf en probeerde het opnieuw, maar sneller, wat een beetje leek te helpen. Maar zoals je op de foto wel kan zien zag het er op sommige gedeelten nog steeds een beetje anders uit. Dus dat brengt me op het onderwerp van de applicatie: je moet ‘t snel aanbrengen, omdat het product snel opdroogt. Geen groot probleem, maar wel iets om te onthouden. Ik been trouwens een groot fan van de lipgloss-achtige applicator, welke zorgt voor een erg precieze applicatie. Een lippotlood is niet nodig!

Langhoudendheid (is dat wel een woord?)
Eén van de redenen dat ik zo dol ben op liquid lipsticks is omdat ze zo langhoudend zijn. Deze MUA lip lacquer is daarop geen uitzondering. Ik vind ‘t zelfs moeilijk om ‘t voor het slapen gaan eraf te krijgen (er komt veel gewrijf bij kijken). Dat vind ik eigenlijk wel een voordeel, aangezien ik een hekel heb aan make-up bijwerken. Normaal gesproken als ik thuiskom van een lange schooldag heb ik helemaal geen lippenstift meer op mijn lippen zitten, oeps!

In het kort: Als je op zoek bent naar een budget vriendelijke langhoudende matte lippenstift, dan heb je zeker een MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer nodig.
